Gallup Poll Finds Respect for Police Surging

According to a new Gallup Poll, respect for the police has increased and remains high, despite the highly publicized incidents of police involved shootings and other violent encounters, such as in the 2014 Michael Brown shooting in Ferguson Missouri, and the 2015 death of Freddie Gray, a suspect being transported by police in Baltimore Maryland.

As noted in the Gallup survey highlights below, America’s police have the respect they deserve among all major groups.

  • 76% say they have “a great deal” of respect for the police in their area
  • Respect for law enforcement up since 2015 among whites and nonwhites
  • Majorities in major party, age groups report having respect for police

This poll should remind police that despite the vast amount of negative publicity by the liberal media establishment, Americans value the men and women in blue who risk their lives every day in service to this nation. America’s police forces are the best in the world, and are constantly engaged in improving their policing activities as first responders and law enforcement professionals. This poll should encourage police officers across the nation to continue to do their job in keeping communities safe, knowing that they enjoy the respect of the citizens they protect and serve.
